The Order has a long history in the development of patient information systems starting in the late 1970s. Initial developments were based on patient administration requirements including bed management, waiting lists, appointment diaries, patient billing etc.
In 1995 the MHIS project was commenced with the purpose of developing a clinical based information system. This development was initially driven by the need for accessibility to patient records across a 24/7 community based service including inpatient services and also to improve collective communication and decision making. It has since evolved into a total clinical system, fully owned, authored and supported by the clinical people.
